Year 7

As part of their Transition Education Experience, all Year 7 students attend a camp - held over recent years at The Summit at Trafalgar East. The camp is designed to:

  • develop student confidence and self esteem
  • foster new friendships
  • enable staff and students to get to know one another better in a non-school environment

Year 8

Year 8 Camp

At the start of Term 3, all Year 8 students will be involved in the City Discovery Camp, based at Collins Street in the city.

The City Discovery Camp has a primary focus on creating a greater sense of community and connectedness amongst each House Group and on providing a variety of different experiences to help the students learn more about our great city. On the first day of camp in 2013, students travel as a group by public transport to the city. After a briefing at the CYC campsite, we head east to have lunch in the Fitzroy Gardens, then head to the MCG for a tour and time in the National Sports Museum. Students then head off in groups to do their in-depth city research and meet back at CYC. This research is preparation for an Oral Task back at school in their English classes.  After dinner, we head to Eureka Skydeck and The Edge, and have activities at CYC. On Day Two, the activities are tours of Victoria Market (including food sampling), a river cruise and a tour of ACMI. After dinner, all students will participate in an Amazing Race activity at Etihad Stadium. The last day of each camp includes a visit to Imax and the Melbourne Museum, previously run as a separate Science excursion. Students will return home via public transport. The program will change from year to year as the needs of the students change and the focus of the camp is fine tuned.

Year 9

As part of the Year 9 Personal Enrichment & Extension Program, the five day camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort will allow the students to engage in a range of activities that will promote team-building and mixing, as well as leadership skills. Activities at the camp include: goal setting; raft building; flying fox; high ropes course; giant swing; challenge activities; surfing at Smith’s Beach.

As part of the college’s extensive Outdoor Education program, Year 9 students are given the opportunity to take part in the Wollongarra Camp, an outdoor adventure experience in the mountains of East Gippsland. This consists of a week-long camp at ‘Wollongarra’ on the banks of the Macalister River near Licola. Students enter the camp on a flying fox and then participate in various farm and outdoor activities, as well as a three day hike in the magnificent high country of the Great Dividing Range. The camp is a real life adventure and an extremely rewarding experience for students of all ages; new friendships are made, exciting adventures are had and a whole new way of life is experienced.
